Priesthood Ordinations

Mark your calendars:

On Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Portland, two of our seminarians at Mt. Angel Abbey, Deacon Cary Reniva and Deacon Maro Escano will be ordained to the Priesthood. Both will have Thanksgiving Mass the following day in two different locations. A day or two after their Thanksgiving Mass, Deacon Cary and Deacon Maro will travel to the Philippines to attend their Thanksgiving Mass to their respective parishes.

Deacon Cary Reniva's Thanksgiving Mass will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 10:30 AM, at St. Cecilia Church in Beaverton. He will have a reception in the gym following the mass.

Deacon Maro Escano's Thanksgiving Mass will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 4:00 PM, at St. James Church, in McMinville. He will have a reception in the gym following the mass.

Deaconate Ordination

On Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Portland, one of our seminarian at Mt. Angel Abbey/Seminary, Rally Bien will be ordained as a deacon . We plan to have a Thanksgiving Potluck Reception for him on Sunday, May 24th, 2009 at Holy Trinity Parish after the 11:15 AM mass in the Fireside Room. Fr. Dave Gutmann will celebrate the 11:15 mass and Rally will serve as a deacon for the first time. God's willing, Rally's brother priest from the Philippines might come and will concelebrate.

Stations of the Cross

Do you still remember when we visited Mt. Angel during this time of the year? The serenity of the place, the prayerful atmosphere when we did the 14 stations of the cross? Some of us were given an opportunity to lead the reading of the stations and reminding us The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ during this Lenten Season. Once again, on Sunday March 22nd, different groups in our community will gather in the chapel of St. Joseph along with the seminarians to do the stations. Afterwards, we will have a potluck reception in the Damian Center for our fellowship. Our Kababayans from the Portland Metro Area are requested to bring main dishes while Salem will bring desserts. Dear Friends of the Portland Archdiocese:

Lent is quickly approaching and it is that time of the year when we make our pilgrimage to Mount Angel Seminary for the stations of the cross.

This year's prayerful event will be hosted by the Filipino Seminarians.

We will gather for a holy hour of prayer on Sunday, March 22 at 2:30pm at Saint Joseph's Chapel underneath the Seminary Abbey. There we will pray before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, journey through the Stations in the chapel, which are unique to our seminary, hear a reflection, and have benediction.

This will be a time where the people of Portland Metro Area, Salem, and seminarians can gather as one community and lift our hearts and minds to God.

We will have a light reception hosted by friends in the Portland Metro Area, Salem, and the seminarians immediately after our holy hour.

Mission to visit the Teresa Charities in the Philippines

Last February 14th, the parishioners of "Our of Sorrow" Parish in Portland organized a fundraising event to benefit the Mission of Teresa Charities, their program for the elderly and homeless kids in the Philippines. This Home of charity was established in 2006, in Barangay Central Quezon City . The program is benefiting 130 elderly and 150 homeless kids. As a result of their fundraising, it is inspiring to know that seven Filipinos, one Vietnamese deacon and three caucasians are going to visit the place. They are leaving on March 17th and will stay until the 30th in the PI. Marivic is asking the community for our prayers. Kindly include the following people in your prayers: Marivic Tupaz, Marina Logue, Melba and Krystel Ganaban, Luisa del Rosario, Rhona Marker and Betty Chen (from Seattle) most of them are from Our Lady of Sorrows. Deacon An Vu is the Deacon of OLS, Kathleese and David Matroieni and Donna Blando Montanez are the others.

We wish Marivic and her company a joyful and spirit filled trip to the Philippines and hopefully will see the beauty of our homeland and the hospitality of our people. May God be in your journey as you reach out to our marginalized kababayans with compasionate hearts. May Christ keeps you safe and protected all over the land.

CFC Oregon Evangelization Rally

This is to confirm and remind you all to our Evangelization Rally on March 29 Sunday at St. Charles ( Borromeo) Church 5310 NE 42nd Avenue, Portland, OR 97218. It will start at 1pm and end around 6pm. Bro. Rolly and Sis. Nila, Fajilan , Bro. Ed Fiqueroa and Bro. Bobby all from CFC NorCal will be here and also Bro. Butch and Sis. Mayin Santos and may be some of our new CFC WA new members will join them. Please find time to attend, this is our only once a year activity and will also serve ous assembly for the month of March. Invite your family and friends to join us. God bless us all.

Soup Supper

The Filipino Community hosted the Soup Supper last night and it was a fun event. It was nice to see several familiar faces during the soup supper at St. Cecilia's gym. Afterwards the "Stations of the Cross" was held in the church and it ended with Benediction.

Thanks to the CFC Ministry members, St. Cecilia Filipino Parishioners, some Filipino Parishioners from Holy Trinity who donated the food, prepared and cooked the vegi soup and clam chowder, served the food, did the setup and cleanup. The guests enjoyed the delicious soups, the warm rolls, the cool apple juice and the hot coffee. Some of them even had seconds.

Thank you for a job well done. The donations will go towards the Dambana Project.

Aguman Medical Mission 2009

Aguman Capampangan NW USA is an organization that regularly sponsors medical and dental mission in various Capampangan communities in the Philippines. This year, they launched a Medical and Dental Mission in 8 towns of Pampanga, 2 in Tarlac, 2 in La Union and 1 in Bulacan starting from January 4th until the 17th. Aguman procured the medicines and vitamins worth $5000.00 from World Medical Relief, Inc from Detroit, Michigan and $2,500 children medicines to a Pharmaceutical Company in the Philippines. They were granted with 100% match for the medicines. The medicines that were bought here in the US were sorted and shipped through balikbayan boxes to the respective towns in four provinces. The president of the Medical Mission Rudy Alejandrino said, few months in advance they have to coordinate the events with the local goverment officials to ensure assistance from the local doctors and dentists who serve in the health department to help them in their mission. He went to the Philippines a week ahead of his team to make sure the medicines arrived on time and check to see if the doctors and dentists from each town are ready to go.

The 13 towns they visited were Paombong Bulacan, Concepcion and Tarlac City, Tarlac, San Juan and Aringay, La Union, Masantol, Macabebe, Santo Thomas, Bacolor, Angeles City, Lubao, Guagua, and Santa Rita, Pampanga. There were total of 5320 recipients, 80% received medical treatments and 20 % received dental treatments. Aside from Rudy, the other Medical / Dental team members who accompanied him were Dentist Luz Tulipat, Frida Alejandrino, Rose de Jesus, Mary Balino, Bert & Linda Ocampo, Mr. Simeon Mamaril, Marita and Arturo Villanueva.

Aside from the medicines, Frida Alejandrino said, they were able to give away 2000 rosaries, and several boxes of clothing for the marginalized people in the remote areas. She said, our kababayans were very much appreciative and one can easily see the smiles on their faces as they received their blessings. The team was delighted on the outcome of their mission and grateful for all the people who supported them.

It is evident the medical and dental mission that the Aguman Capampangan embarked was a very successful endeavor.
