Seminarians Christmas Concert

Dear friends,

Take some time off this Saturday evening (December 12 - Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe) for a very special concert/christmas carol of the Filipino American Seminarians of Mt. Angel Seminary. It will be held at ST. Clare Catholic Church at 7:30 pm. There will be some light reception starting at 6pm for those who can come earlier.

The repertoire consists of christmas carols, advent songs, and Marian songs in honor of our Lady of Guadalupe. These young men will serenade us with their beautiful voices and share their enthusiastic passion for their chosen vocation. This is also in preparation for the big Santo Nino celebration which they are organizing for January 16-17. Free will offering will be accepted and that will be used to fund the big event in January where in Bishop Oscar Solis of Los Angeles (first Filipino Bishop ordained for the American Church) will be the main celebrant.

It will be a great opportunity for the whole family to gather and listen to familiar songs that lift the spirit during this season!

St. Clare's address is: 8535 SW 19th & Spring Garden, Portland, Oregon, 97219.

If you are lost, you may call me at 503-481-5228.

Please pass this on to all your friends, Filipinos and non-Filipinos, who you think may be interested or may enjoy a wonderful evening like it would be!

Thanks and God bless,

Pia

Eastside Simbang Gabi Schedule 2009

Hello,

The attached flyer has been updated for the Eastside celebration of Simbang Gabi at St. Therese.

Please invite all family/friends and other parishioners to come and join us as we prepare for the the Lord's coming. Our main petition for this year's novena Masses is to build the St. Therese house for a poor Filipino family through Gawad Kalinga. The collections from the first and last Simbang Gabi Masses will go toward this goal. We hope that everyone will share what they can. Please remember that any donation will be tax deductible and acknowledgement will be sent by ANCOP Foundation USA.

We would like to invite you to the December 23rd potluck in the Parish Social Center, right after the Simbang Gabi Mass, where we can all celebrate Christ's coming with Filipino Christmas songs and lots of kakanin.

Thanks and God bless.

Advent Events Schedule

Dear Friends and kababayans,

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holidays.

We had an opportunity to watch the CNN Heroes after Thanksgiving dinner and we’re deeply moved as we watched and listened to the top 10 CNN 2009 Heroes of the Year. Each and every contestant had beautiful stories to share and they’ve changed so many lives in their community. However, Efren Penaflorida the pushcart educator was named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. We’re so proud of him for making a difference to the lives of so many children back home in the Philippines. His messages to the children and to everyone were so inspirational. If you haven’t heard his speech, please click this website http://edition.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/11/16/cnnheroes.tribute.show/index.html.

Last Sunday, we had another opportunity to serve at the Faith Café. That was the last Sunday for our community to serve for 2009 and since it was the last week of the month, guess what?! The place was fully packed. Additional table and chairs were setup to accommodate everyone. Several St. Clare parishioners along with their teens came to help cooked, setup, served the food and cleaned up the place. We served Rigatoni Dinner with rolls, salad and fresh fruits on the side. I’ve seen large number of volunteers in the past, and thus far that was the biggest. I’m grateful to Pia de Leon for inviting and recruiting new volunteers in her parish. As for the new 2010 Faith Café Schedule, please click this link http://filcomevents.blogspot.com/2009/11/faith-cafe-2010-schedule.html,

We are wondering if we have a Mindanao group in our community, both Muslims and non-Muslims. A request has been received to find a place for a student from Mindanao who wants to attend classes at the Beaverton High School. If you know such group and have contact information, please let us know.

Thank you for your continued support to our community events.
